Twenty four hours ago when I went to bed, I did not think that I would have to write this tonight…but today we lost or beautiful 13 year old yellow lab, Kirby. We had to make the inevitable and extremely sad decision to put him to sleep. This morning when we woke up, he barely opened his eyes to greet us. His tail did not wag when I walked into
the room. He did not make a move or a sound to get up or beg for food. He had been in failing health for about a year…difficulty getting up, taking a walk, stumbling; he seemed to have some sort of neuromuscular thing going on… we were not sure what because even if it could have been diagnosed, it was most likely incurable…so for the past year, he has been on several medications to treat symptoms not cure a serious health issue. So today, we carried him to our car and took him to our vet and cuddled and stroked him through his final breaths. Kirby, our sweetheart, we will miss your smiling face, your bounce at the back door, your infamous begging for chicken, bread and broccoli….to name some of your favorites. And though your body
failed you, we know that your precious heart never failed to love all who loved you!

Today was a sad sad day. Miss that little nugget already.
