Saddest Thing You’ll Hear/See/Read Today of the Day: The AP is reporting that the home of Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, who plays 10-year-old Salim in Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning sleeper hit Slumdog Millionaire, was demolished today—without warning—by regional authorities.
According to reports, Azhar and his family were awoken in the middle of the night by police and told to leave their home of 15 years. “A police officer took a bamboo stick to hit me, and I was frightened,” Azhar told a reporter.
Officials say the family will be given a new place to live, but, as the AP notes in their story, these houses are poor substitutes that are usually set up in remote areas, far from jobs.
